JOSE MOURINHO has revealed why Alexis Sanchez was not happy at Manchester United.
But he failed to replicate that level of performance for the Red Devils, scoring just five times in 45 games.
His poor run of form for Man Utd came while they were paying him a ludicrous wage of £505,000 a week.
Eventually, in the summer of 2019, he secured a move to Inter Milan – where he still is now.
Sanchez netted a stunning second goal for Simone Inzaghi’s side as he booked the Italian champions’ place in the semi-finals of the cup.
Revealing their conversation following Roma’s defeat, Mourinho said: “I spoke with him [Sanchez] at the start of the match.
“In England he was not happy, it was not his natural habitat, it is here.”
Sanchez’s form has improved in Italy, with the South American netting 17 times in the two and a half seasons he has been with Inter.
Mourinho received a warm welcome back from the Inter fans, who deployed a banner that read: “Welcome back home, Jose.”
But Roma players did not receive the same friendly treatment and Inter got off a perfect start as they opened the scoring with their first attack.
Ex-Roma striker Edin Dzeko converted from an Ivan Perisic cross after only two minutes.
Roma’s sluggish defence looked more solid as the game progressed, but Mourinho’s team were wasteful going forward.
Sanchez then doubled Inter’s lead in the 68th minute with a sumptuous strike into the top corner from outside the box.

Having been dumped out of the cup, Roma will now focus on trying to finish in the top four in Serie A.
They currently sit six points outside of the Champions League qualification places in seventh.
Meanwhile, Sanchez’s Inter, who were beaten by rivals AC Milan in the derby last weekend, hold a one-point lead at the top of the table.
